Year Six projects/Autumn Term

Year 6 have been given projects on their classes countries - 6M is Poland, 6G is Great Britain and 6F is Italy.  They had to research each country and post their findings in books - some of us interviewed residents from those countries who now live in England, and also found interesting facts and maps.

We are now working on a WW II (1939-45) project incorporating recipes from those times, songs, poems and newspaper reports.

Autumn Activities - 6G

6M have been busy in the great outdoors at Glasbury and at school.

We've been on a nature
walk and had to identify
different types of trees.
We also made maps after measuring the school.

In DT, we are making flowers and learning about how they reproduce in our Science lessons.

In Art, we are using our sketching skills to draw the flowers and their individual parts, and in Literacy we are writing poems.

See all the Glasbury updates on our website under Media, Other FPS Media or on the Fronter Parents Room (logon:  FPSparents with password:  fairlop) or on our NEW playground video screen.

Our visit to Ilford Mosque

On Thursday 23rd June we went to the Mosque in Ilford. We travelled there by bus, which took about 40minutes. When we arrived at the mosque there was a special man there to greet us. he was called an Imam. He was very friendly and made us feel welcome. He and 2 friends showed us around the mosque and explained that before they pray they have to wash all over including their feet. When you enter the mosque you all have to remove your shoes first. Then they took us upstairs to an area where Muslim children are taught all about Islam.
Before we left the men said a special prayer which lasted about half an hour. After this we all put our shoes back on and set back off to school. It was a memorable trip which we all enjoyed and it was interesting listening to other peoples religion.

Science week

On the 18th of March it was science week. In the afternoon all of year 5 switched classrooms and did different science activities. First 5R went to Mrs stokes classroom and did dancing food. In this activity we had to put a raison into some lemonade and then watched what they did.  We all really enjoyed this activity.
Next 5R went to Miss Morgan’s class where she taught us how to measure how much fat is in different foods.

Finally we went back to our own classrooms and did crazy custard. This was where we made custard and then let it go hard and then we put our fingers through it to see how it felt. This was a really crazy experience but also a lot of messy fun!
